Description of the position

Under the supervision of the foreman, the heavy truck driver delivers or picks up materials and merchandise from customers or suppliers by driving a truck requiring a class 1 and 3 driver’s license. They perform all related tasks, in compliance with the internal processes and rules of the Organization.

Tasks

Delivery and pick-up

  1. Inspect the truck on a daily basis and fill out the form provided for this purpose.
  2. Receive the delivery schedule each morning and program it into the GPS.
  3. Ensure optimal loading of the truck by taking into account the different deliveries and the size of the items.
  4. S’assurer que la commande chargée dans le camion correspond à la facture remise pour la livraison en faisant un décompte de la marchandise.
  5. Ensure that the order loaded on the truck corresponds to the invoice given for the delivery by counting the merchandise.
  6. Drive safely from the store to the customer’s location.
  7. Ask the customer where they want the load to be unloaded.
  8. Operate the crane to unload items when necessary.
  9. Assist customers with unloading of merchandise as needed.
  10. Unload gyprock deliveries by lifting sheets by hand.
  11. Give the copy of the invoice to the customer and make sure that everything is complete by counting the merchandise that he received with him.
  12. Go to suppliers at the request of the Foreman to pick up orders and sign the invoice to confirm the pickup.
  13. Put gasoline in the truck every evening when returning from deliveries.

Administration

  1. Write the time of deliveries on the invoices.
  2. Turn in delivery invoices and inspection sheets to the foreman at the end of the day.
  3. Report any necessary repairs to trucks.
  4. Fill out a credit application for customers when they wish to return merchandise.
  5. Answer phone calls to keep in touch with the store throughout the day.
  6. Participate in team meetings.

Skills requested

Training and experience

  1. Have a high school diploma.
  2. Class 1 and 3 driver’s license
  3. Experience as a Class 1 and 3 driver (an asset)
  4. Good knowledge of spoken French
  5. Functional English (an asset)
  6. Be able to lift up to 120 lb twice a week.
