Description of the position

Under the supervision of the manager, the designer provides great customer service by welcoming clients in the store and asking them questions to present them with the products needed for their projects. He also performs purchasing and reception tasks, in addition to keeping everything in order in the store. He performs all related tasks, in compliance with the internal processes and rules of the Organization.

Tasks

1. Customer service (60%)

  • Welcome and greet clients.
  • Determine the needs of each client by asking the right questions and providing advice.
  • Suggest products, such as wallpaper, light fixtures, paint and window coverings.
  • Suggest alternate or complementary products, if needed.
  • Refer the best product for each project.
  • Highlight the characteristics of the products so the client can make an informed decision.
  • Make sales and prepare invoices.
  • Establish the payment plan with the client and inform them on the credit and exchange terms, in addition to specifying guarantees.
  • Provide general contractors references for clients’ projects.
  • Charge the merchandise to the client by scanning the products’ bar code.
  • Demagnetize the products by passing them on the plate.
  • Conclude the payment of invoices by debit, credit, cheque, or on an open account.
  • Make sure that the clients are satisfied by discussing with them.
  • Reimburse clients in situation of merchandise return.
  • Count the cash at the beginning and end of each shift.

 

2. Purchasing (10%)

  • Make automatic orders by making sure to comply with the predetermined minimum and maximum and by adjusting, if needed, according to the season or demand.
  • Create purchase orders and send them to the suppliers.
  • Conduct tight follow-ups with suppliers to ensure the delivery of orders.
  • Follow the market trends to make purchases at the right moment.
  • Adjust prices in the software, if necessary, and follow-up with the accounting department to ensure suppliers invoice payment.
  • Communicate with the supplier when a product is discontinued.

 

3. Merchandise reception and inventory (10%)

  • Manually receive the merchandise.
  • Check that the delivery order matches the merchandise received.
  • Report any error with the driver and write the information on the delivery slip.
  • Tag the merchandise with product-codes or tags.
  • Prepare the orders of any merchandise reserved by clients and contact them.
  • Place the orders in the store and the warehouse.
  • Restock the shelves.
  • Count inventory and explain the discrepancies, if the case may be.
  • Keep your work environment clean and safe.

 

4. Administration (10 %)

  • Know the products and remain updated on their characteristics.
  • Prepare coloration forms by analysing clients projects.
  • Collaborate in the training of new employees.
  • Answer the phone.
  • Participate in team meetings.
  • Participate in special projects with the paint salesperson.

Skills requested

  • Professional diploma in interior design.
  • 2-year experience in design.
  • Good knowledge of French spoken/written.
  • Functional English.
