Description of the position
Under the supervision of the delivery manager, the heavy truck driver delivers or picks up materials and merchandise from customers or suppliers by driving a truck requiring a class 1 and 3 driver’s license.
They perform all related tasks, in compliance with the internal processes and rules of the Organization.
Tasks
1. Delivery and pick-up (80%)
- Inspect the truck on a daily basis and fill out the form provided for this purpose.
- Receive the delivery schedule each morning and program it into the GPS.
- Ensure optimal loading of the truck by taking into account the different deliveries and the size of the items.
- Ensure that the order loaded on the truck corresponds to the invoice given for the delivery by counting the merchandise.
- Secure the order in the truck so that it remains in place during transport.
- Drive safely from the store to the customer’s location.
- Ask the customer where they want the load to be unloaded.
- Operate the crane to unload items when necessary.
- Assist customers with unloading of merchandise as needed.
- Unload gyproc deliveries by lifting sheets by hand.
- Give the copy of the invoice to the customer and make sure that everything is complete by counting the merchandise that he received with him.
- Go to suppliers at the request of the foreman to pick up orders and sign the invoice to confirm the pickup.
- Put gasoline in the truck every evening, when returning from deliveries.
2. Administration (20%)
- Write the time of deliveries on the invoices.
- Turn in delivery invoices and inspection sheets to the foreman at the end of the day.
- Report any necessary repairs to trucks.
- Fill out a credit application for customers when they wish to return merchandise.
- Answer phone calls to keep in touch with the store throughout the day.
- Participate in team meetings.
Skills requested
- Have a high school diploma.
- Experience as a Class 1 and 3 driver (an asset).
- Good knowledge of French spoken.
- Functional English (an asset).
- Class 1 and 3 driver’s license.
- Be able to lift up to 120 lbs twice a week.
